The 2018 Winter Olympics are closing in fast. There is anticipation around the world as the 2018 Winter Olympics are just a few days away from taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea. All the events and athletes can be overwhelming for spectators. Here is a list of athletes you should be on the lookout for during the Winter Olympics.

 

Matt Antoine

 

Matt Antoine will be in the skeleton event. A United States native, Antoine received his degree in sports management, wellness, and fitness from the California State University of Pennsylvania. Antoine finished seventh in skeleton at the 2017 world championship in Germany and is a fan favorite in the United States for his event.

 

Erik Bjornsen

 

Erik’s event is cross-country skiing and is a two-time Olympian from the state of Washington. Erik and his sister both placed well during the world championship in 2017 and are expected to exceed their performances than in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

 

Maddie Bowman

 

Bowman is a huge fan favorite in the United States for her event of freestyle skiing. Bowman, only twenty-four years old won the gold medal in her debut at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. Bowman has also won four medals at the X games, two of them being gold. She finished fifth in the 2017 world championship and is expected to perform well for this year’s Olympics.

 

Nathan Chen

 

A Salt Lake City native, Chen has reigned supreme in figure skating across the globe for several years, Chen is the established Four Continents, Grand Prix champion. Chen is the only skater in the world to have completed five quadruple jumps in one program. Chen is a must-watch contestant in the figure skating event.

 

Red Gerard

 

Red has the potential for becoming the youngest American to receive a medal in the Winter Olympics. At the age of seventeen, Red is competing at slopestyle and open air after his win in Colorado from the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix.

 

Chloe Kim

 

Kim, out of Long Beach California is another young athlete that has significant potential for earning a medal in the games. Kim won two gold medals in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016. She has also been dubbed the first woman to land back-to-back 1080s and score a perfect 100 during competition. Kim’s event is halfpipe is a must-see when watching the Winter Olympics.
