Are you new to skiing and looking for a slope to try out a thrilling hobby? Are you an old pro ready to mix things up a little from your usual haunts? Whatever stage you’re at in your skiing career, there’s a place for everyone on the slopes, and if you’re not sure where to start, here are some good jumping off points:
Breckenridge, Colorado
Voted #1 out of all of the United States ski destinations and #2 in ski destinations across the globe, Breckenridge, or “Breck” as the locals call it, is about eighty miles southwest of Denver and boasts the Tenmile Range. Ten miles of slopes will keep skiers busy all day, and the downtown area is filled with bars and restaurants to revive skiers for the next day. If you’re a beer aficionado, they even have a number of breweries and a distillery to explore.
Quebec City, Quebec
There are several top ski spots near Quebec City, such as Stoneham, Le Massif de Charlevoix, and Mont-Sainte-Anne. All of them could keep you busy for days, but don’t forget the city itself has lots to offer! If anyone in your party needs a break from skiing, Quebec City will trick you into thinking you’re in France with its many bakeries, cafes, and all of their French delicacies. Stepping into Old Quebec feels like going back in time, and it has plenty of shopping and beautiful architecture to admire. Try some poutine, too, if you have the chance – it’s French fries covered in gravy and cheese curds.
Lake Tahoe, California
Lake Tahoe is a picturesque sight to behold at any time of year, but the views from ski slopes are unlike any other the town has to offer. Lake Tahoe offers ski areas such as Heavenly, Squaw Valley, and Northstar California to keep you busy for days. If you need a break from the slopes, there are miles of hiking trails to explore, high-end shops to browse, and casinos if you want to test your luck. There are also activities like hot air balloon rides, cruises across the lake, and gondolas available for romantic dates.
Salzburg, Austria
While skiing in Europe is always an incredible experience, Salzburg makes it an unforgettable one with over twenty-two places to choose from. There’s plenty of history, whether you’re a music buff or a movie fan — not to mention beautiful churches and festivals and concerts to explore. You’ll never go hungry in this skiing haven, you’ll never be bored, and you’ll never have to go very far to see something new!
